چکیده

Floods trigger cascades of physical processes that alter streams and riparian zones of mountain landscapes, yet affected species are resilient Recent flooding in the Pacific Northwest vividly illustrates the complexity of watershed and ecosystem responses to floods, especially in steep forest landscapes. Flooding involves a sequence of interactions that begins with climatic drivers. These drivers, generally rain and snowmelt, interact with landscape conditions, such as vegetation pattern and topography, to determine the capability of a watershed to deliver water, sediment, and organic material to downstream areas (Figure 1). Land-use practices can affect watershed responses to flooding through the influences of managed vegetation patterns and roads on delivery of water, sediment, and wood to streams. Watershed responses to floods include geophysical processes, such as landslides and channel erosion, and related disturbances of aquatic and riparian organisms and their habitats. We explore these geophysical-ecological interactions using a recent flood in

Flood zoning of Bandar Abbas city and evaluation of the development trend of residential areas towards flood areas

Extended abstract   1- Introduction An examination of the number of floods in recent years shows that floods are no longer a rare sudden disaster, but a growing phenomenon that, at any given time, causes a lot of damage, including life and death. As a result of interference in natural environments, the presence of multiple structures, and the lack of appropriate measures to protect these env...

Assessing land use impacts on flood processes in complex terrain by using GIS and Modeling approach

A distributed hydrologic modeling and GIS approach is applied for the assessment of land use impact in the Steinsel sub-basin, Alzette, Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg. The assessment focuses on the runoff contributions from different land use classes and the potential impact of land use changes on runoff generation. The results show that the direct runoff from urban areas is dominant for a flood eve...

Investigation and classification of dams as traditional structures in water and soil protection and agriculture (Case study: Shahid Parsa Dam watershed)

Bandsar is a traditional and Intelligently method of exploiting floods in arid and semi-arid areas, which can be implemented in a wide area with the participation of watershed residents. This structure, in addition to controlling floods and feeding the aquifer, expands flood agriculture in the region, and by collecting sediments from floods, it leads to soil enrichment. To this end, in this res...

Assessing the Impact of Land Use Changes and Rangeland and Forest Degradation on Flooding Using Watershed Modeling System

Extensive flood damages all over the world necessitate its control and operation. Hydrologic impacts of land use change appear in many ways such as total runoff, and flood peak flow. This study was performed in 2014 and aimed to investigate the impacts of land use changes on the occurrence of floods in the catchment of Boostan dam in Golestan province, Iran. For this purpose, Watershed Modeling...

Detecting and Modelling the Trend of Change in the Forest Land Use in Garasu Watershed Area Using Landscape Metrics

Detecting, predicting and quantifying the trends of landscape pattern change in the forests of Gharasu watershed area are necessary so as to assess the crises or prevent them. To this aim, the land use maps belonging to the years 1987, 2002 and 2018 were classified through the maximum likelihood method, and the forest area changes were estimated. Then, through the Geomod model and the forest ch...
